This book of poems describes the Civil War as it was in reality. It tells the stories and describes the people of both the North and the South. It tells of  generals switching allegiances; it shows how women played a large part both at home and on the battlefield.

We can see generals personalities, and watch their development throughout the Civil War.  We learn that a lot of them didn’t get along.

 We find that most of the generals were ordinary people before being called “Heroes”. This book invites us to see and learn about some of the more notable people as well as a number of the lesser known individuals who played an important role in the Civil War.
